The Required, "I just got my new Macbook Pro" thread

UPS dropped it off this morning after scaring me with a 'Rescheduled for 4/13' note in the tracking log. 15" 2.66. First Mac... and first laptop I bought myself after being able to use laptops from work for over 10 years. With laptop encryption, SMS, and a load of other sniffer type stuff being pushed down, it is time to separate work from play. Now the hunt begins for replacement software for usenet, ftp, IM, email, etc., etc.

The first major problem that I realized is... I can't eat dinner and browse the internets anymore. With work computers, I didn't care as much and they're all covered by Dell's idiot proof warranty!

Just a friendly reminder that posts like this are best put in the appropriate notebook forum.

Congrats on your purchase :D

I thought the notebook forums were for notebook questions or discussions.

This thread is just useless banter so I put it on the general whatever forum... my bad :)

I got most of my stuff loaded and spending some time googling for info. woot.

In any event, those show up all the time in that forum and never get locked, so I assume the mods tolerate them as a general policy.

I've always been pleasantly surprised by the free of charge Mac apps that are out there. I'd start your search there.

As for dinner and surfing, well a wireless keyboard & mouse, and a laptop stand might be all the insurance you need.

And congrats on the switch to the light side. ;)

Yeah, I've already decided I'm going to get a wireless mouse. The wireless keyboard seemed like a waste until you just mentioned I'd use it while eating. Nice! I knew this forum was helpful!
