The Settlers - can I play it today??

When I was at school I loved The Settlers: Veni, Vidi, Vici. At the time it was on a PC, but I know it was available for a Mac.

If I found it can I play it today on my 2008 MBP?
 
Furthermore, regarding the new version of the game which requires XP/Vista, would I be right in thinking I'd need to spend c.£150 on Vista before the game would work on my Mac?
