With the recent influx of new forum users who have just bought new late 2012 refresh iMacs I've noticed a huge uptick in the number of threads either being created or resurrected which don't really belong in the iMac sub-forum.
Remember that, we're all here to chat, have fun (socialize with other Mac heads) and help other users (well, most of us are), but that it can get a bit tiresome to wade through numerous threads which are placed here inappropriately.
So, I recommend some fairly common sense things to think about before posting with an "iMac question".
So, before you create a new thread, ask yourself a few questions;
1. Is my question related specifically to hardware/configuration or software interactions that are specific to the iMac desktop model?
If the answer is yes, then post away. If the answer is no, read on.
2. Questions about the operating system (OS X) on my iMac. If you have an OS question, that is not specific to the hardware of your iMac, please post the question in the OS X sub-forum.
Example - Why does my iMac hard drive have trouble with OS X update 10.8.x... belongs here in the iMac forum
Example - Why is my TM restore taking so long? ... probably belongs in the OS X forum.
3. Questions about the applications on your iMac. Again, ask yourself if the question is specific to your iMac or if it is a question that probably applies to any Mac model running the application. In general, applications questions belong in the Applications and App store forum.
Example - Lightroom has this problem, but only on my 2012 iMac... probably belongs here.
Example - Lightroom has this problem, and I happen to be using an iMac probably belongs in the Applications and App store forum.
4. Questions about Mac basics... (how do I start the finder, how do I change wallpaper, etc) belong in the Mac basics forum.
5. Questions about the value of a used Mac (buying or selling) belong in the Buying Tips forum.
