The SIM card

When any of you sell an iPhone online or in person, do you remove the SIM card? If so, does the person buying your phone just insert their existing one in? I'm selling my 5 next week, not sure if the buyer needs a SIM or not. I don't think I should leave mine in with the phone.

Turn off iMessage.
Delete iCloud account from phone.
Turn off Find My iPhone.
Remove SIM.
Reset phone.

Your SIM contains your account information and absolutely should not be provided to the new buyer (unless you've had it deactivated, but even then I wouldn't recommend it).
