Just updated to macOS 15.4.1, after being forced to restart due to the network share timeout bug (I still need to make a post about this).

So far:
  • I can no longer delete some AI AssetsV2 files. I can delete others, but there's still about 2GB I can't delete, after it decided to download them before I could re-block them via Little Snitch.
  • The two GB of lost space doesn't really matter: I have also lost over 100GB of space on my startup drive because...I don't know. No, there's no TM snapshots, nor did I see anything with a quick run of `ncdu`. Guess this will be a "fun" weekend of figuring out why that happened.
  • locationd is using up all of my CPU for no apparent reason.

Does someone want to remind me why paying $2000 gets you an experience worse than Windoze?

Will also be trying out a configuration profile to disable all the AI stuff
Apple Intellgence can be disabled with a configuration profile? Please post the profile as text.

This guy's blog has many interesting/useful configuration profile/device management information on it, including the AI stuff:

I did use the app "iMazing Profile Editor" to make the actual profile, though, since the blog provides separate plists for each feature.

Smooth sailing here after the 15.5 update... so far.

[Update: I just noticed that a few menubar apps didn't auto-launch at startup. Simply launching them fixed the problem after the next restart. If I'm not mistaken this happens occasionally, and randomly, after updates]

May be not significant, but my self-written JAVA application with extensive menubars is OK.
Or, I do not understand the term 'auto-launch'.
;JOOP!

A new issue: (still on 15.4.1 because I am going on a trip soon and I'm not going to bother doing a system update when all I need is to back up my phone and copy a few movies to it. I had incorrectly assuming that staying on my current OS revision and not rebooting would be the smarter choice than updating and potentially having something go wrong.)

I went to the bathroom, locked my screen like I always do, I came back, entered in my password, and then I just got an infinite spinner right below the password entry. Didn't "shake" to tell me my password wasn't correct or anything, just never responded. I was able to put it asleep via ssh, also tried doing a terminal-based logout via ssh, neither really helped but it did result in this weird situation where the password entry box was responsive but the spinner was still there and pressing enter or the arrow button did nothing:

Oh well, guess I'll be
1. Re-checking my external drives
2. Checking to see if this bug happens again
3. Restarting the download I had in progress
4. Figuring out where the hell I was in the video I was watching in QuickTime
5. Restarting my movie copy

I feel like I have to deal with some sort of forced restart every week with my new Mac. For $2000 I'm getting a far, far, worse experience than I did with my $500 2011 mini that I could run for 120 days straight without it failing on me. I have a picture of the uptime somewhere, sad to realize that I will likely never experience that stability again, as apple falls down the well of broken software.

My custom hard drive icon vanished after the 15.5 update. No way to delete it or get it back to the default.

Clicking the area in the Get Info box does nothing.

EDIT: Restarting the Finder, rebooting, Safe Mode, and icon resizing all failed. Also tried toggling the HD icons in Finder Prefs, which failed too.

you could try force-quitting the finder. or rebooting. or try changing icon size in finder>view>show view icons. also, change show items on desktop (finder>settings>general), ie uncheck 'Hard disks', then re-check that...
