Today, the 5S is but a minor improvement over the 5, with only the camera and perhaps Touch ID truly counting as purchase-worthy upgrades. But as Apple learns to make use of its motion processor, its 64-bit operating system, and its fingerprint sensor, and teaches its developers to do the same, the 5S will get far better.

Reads a little like the 5S will be a "worthy" upgrade when the iPhone ecosystem catches up to it..... which will be somewhere between now and the time an iPhone 6 debuts.

iPhone 5/5S camera better than Lumia 1020?

... lol.

"Now, Nokia says that this phone has a 41-megapixel camera. But if you think megapixels equal picture quality, you’ll be sorely disappointed, both in this camera and any other.

The megapixel count really means very little. There have been 2-megapixel cameras that took wonderful photos, and 20-megapixel cameras that took terrible ones. A high megapixel count is primarily a marketing gimmick. "

Personally I would have given the Display an 8 (still an excellent, accurate panel, but still lacking size), and Software a 7, but honestly the 5S is still a great phone. Congrats to all the new 5S owners, I'm jealous of the fingerprint sensor (and that's coming from someone who uses a GS4)! :)

i'm hoping the beefed up specs bode well for phones lasting longer than the usual two generations before starting to feel slow. i guess its because i have an iphone 4 but iphone 5/5s doesnt seem too small at all. if anything, some of those android and windows 8 phones seem too big. just personal preference of course

Have you ever used a Lumia 1020 and an iPhone 5 side-by-side?

These guys always mark down because the display isn't bigger. Coming from a note 2 and galaxy s4, the iPhone displays are breath of fresh air.

It feels awkward holding a s4 with one hand, and I had one since release.

I was hoping for Joshua Topolski to do the review, but either way pretty much what I was expecting.

Nope. Have you owned and lived with a Lumia 1020?

I inferred (maybe incorrectly) from your short response that Lumia has the best camera based on the megapixel count.

"The Lumia 1020 may offer you 41 megapixels and endless flexibility, but for virtually every practical point-and-shoot purpose the 8-megapixel iPhone 5 was the best smartphone camera on the market — and the 5S is even better."

The key words are "practical point-and-shoot purpose."

I do own and use a Lumia 1020. It's funny because on theverge's Lumia 1020 review, they claim that "this is by leaps and bounds the best cameraphone ever made. It’s more flexible than the Lumia 920, more impressive than the iPhone 5, even more accurate and vibrant than the 808 PureView."

And on today's iPhone 5S review, "iPhone 5 was the best smartphone camera on the market — and the 5S is even better."

I've used both and the Lumia 1020's camera is leaps ahead of the 5. It's the best point and shoot camera phone I've ever owned.

Than you are a winner, you have the best smartphone camera on the market. :p

"Maybe the best smartphone ever made".

Let's all hope that fandroids will not hurt themselves in the next few days. Or we should also get ready for the relentless onslaught everywhere in the internet by some of them.

^_^ YAY. The iPhone camera is faster though. It takes 3 seconds for the Lumia 1020 to process them photos. With iPhone 5 it's instant.

How big is Lumia's file? LOL hopefully it's brains are not all for pics. Hated L 920, I will buy an SLR for beautiful pics, maybe not, as I am pretty happy with the iPhone pics. iPhone 5s is the Hands down greatest 8MP smartest phone camera ever made.
