I've been scouring the internet evaluating external hard drive enclosures for a pair of hard drives (either manually backed up or RAID 1) and came across the N2050 (also available in a sleeker blue/silver). Tom's Hardware seems to like it too.

I will initially be using this with an iBook over USB2, but would like the possibility to seamlessly upgrade to eSATA in the future.

Does anyone have any Mac-based experience with this setup? Were you able to format as HFS+ without issue due to the RAID controller? Are there any issues when you sleep the Mac? Anybody successfully connected to a MBP via eSata? What ExpressCard did you use? This PDF FAQ suggests that a Silicon Image Controller Card such as the Sil3124 is recommended for a Mac, but this seems to be mostly a desktop PCI recommendation. Also, they recommend against connecting directly to a SATA motherboard connector or eSata to Sata adaptor. These may just be conservative suggestions, though.

Anyone with experience with this?
