Hi folks, I'm not sure if this is the correct forum - I have't seen a networking sub forum here.
On eBay (of course) I was offered a second chance offer on a Thecus miniNAS N0204 for $133 vs. the N2050UD - refurbished for $78/80 - neither one comes with drives.
I'm thinking of getting the one with the desktop drives - not the mini since the 3.5" drives would be less expensive. Thecus is one of the few manufacturers of NAS devices that support AFP so I should be able to use Time Machine across the network for everyone - the house will soon have three iMacs and two Macbook Pros.
The network is wireless, but people will be instructed to use cat5 to backup since it is so much faster. I have seen AFP take down wireless networks for whatever reason.

Thoughts? Am I going about this in the wrong way?

Disregard that message - apparently Time Machine backups don't work across a network even with AFP. There are hacks and workarounds but I'd rather not rely on that.
Looks like its time to hit ebay for an Airport extreme or Time Capsule.
Oh well.
