Is there a way to do my idea? You plug in the flash drive and when you double-click it, and background pops up with a little box for you to enter a password. I don't think any apps can do this, but is it possible?

Sorry, :p I wasn't even sure where to post this.

Why not just make an encrypted disk image for the flash drive

How to make and encrypted disk

If you want to use it on Mac and Windows and you want it encrypted, use Truecrypt (www.truecrypt.org). I don't know if MacFUSE (which will be installed by truecrypt) will work with NTFS, so you may need for format the disk with FAT32.

The downside to FAT32 is a 2 GB file size limit when used on a Mac.

You could also use PGP Whole Disk Encryption, but that can be expensive if you don't have a real need. Truecrypt is pretty slick.

Mac's built-in encrypted disk images work only on Mac OS.
