I have read on the Apple site about how to return the mac to factory settings.
It's not something that I need to do at the moment but I was interested in how to do it and it all seems pretty straight forward.

The only thing I was wondering is this:

On the Apple site it says to install the snow leopard disc first followed by the applications disc which will install the bundled applications that came with a new mac.
Well, I've got 3 discs that came with my macbook, snow leopard, applications and ilife.
So what's on the applications disc and if it's Ilife why have I got an extra disc specifically with Ilife on it?

Most likely you bought your machine not too long after a new version of iLife was released. Your "additional applications" DVD contains the old version of iLife. The iLife DVD contains the newer version.
