Theoritical question on hack software then purchasing

Let's say a friend of mine downloaded a hack copy of Lightroom 2 and CS4. He likes it so much that he's now going to go purchase the upgrade versions (because he doesn't own any originals or previous version) the software. Will he be able to enter the new software keys and use it as usual?
