I woke up this morning and went to use my MBP and once I opened the lid, there were ants everywhere. I immediately knocked them off and I assumed that was it. I closed the lid and then more ants appeared. I knocked them off again. Every time I close the lid and reopen it more ants appear. They dont appear when I am using my Mac. I increased the fan speed to try and make them leave but that did not work. What can I do?

Could this damage my Mac? How do you suggest I remove the ants?

There are quite a few "ant" threads around with various suggestions
You might want to try MRoogle and search

This is a problem that comes up quite frequently

Try canned air and a vacuum.

Do you eat around your computer? I'd assume that they were drawn by some food source.

I also wouldn't use the computer until the infestation is removed. I would guess they might gum up the works and cause more damage.

Yes, an ant could short out something while walking around inside.

Not sure why you have ants. Have you eaten any sweets nearby or have you had any sugar based foods on your fingers when using your MBP? Could anyone have spilt some sweet based liquid on your MBP?

I read somewhere that bugs are attracted to magnetic fields. I guess you need to spray some raid around your house, after cleaning the laptop :D

I put sugar on the sides (near the trackpad) to try and lure them out. None have come out. Maybe they are all gone?

Step 1: Replace GPU thermal paste with Raid ant killer.

Step 2: Proceed to boot into Windows, and open Crysis on max settings.

Step 3: Watch as ants are smoked out.
