Yet again, MacRumors seems to think that the only country in the world is the US. Today we have this misleading "News" headline:

Survey: Nearly 70% of Users Plan to Upgrade to iPhone 17

but of course this survey was only in the US.

Only 10% of iPhone users reside in the US, yet it seems that 90% of the News items are about the US. What arrogance, what American Exceptionalism!

Come on MacForums, stop this America First policy and start reporting for the 90% of iPhone users outside the US. After all, Apple serves the rest of the world ... why don't you?

Let's not have a fight over perceptions and misconceptions. Both posts are valid, as Chris is pointing out correctly that there are other users out there with a much longer upgrade cycle, and Robert is making a valid argument that MacRumors is just passing on someone else's survey that is certainly newsworthy (and at same time, US centric).

Let's enjoy Labor Day without being Manichaeism !

FYI, in case you do not know, Labor Day is a US holiday. (I think this is called "unconscious bias")

Chris: I'm actually not American, and I am currently in the US. That is why I mentioned Labor Day.

I'm from a country that celebrate Workers' Day every May, as most countries do. In the US, it coincides with the celebration of the end of summer.

You are unconsciously being biased against any US reference.

PS In case you did not notice I was defending you.

You're complaint is misplaced as the survey did not come from MacRumors and the article on the front page makes it clear that its a US based survey. I'm unsure why the angst, and frustration given that the article mentions its US based 15 words in the first sentence.

Light mode? Are you serious?
I agree with the OP in some things. Wish giveaways would extend to Europe too.

Most users here are US based though.

Totally spurious claim. But in keeping with the logic ....

Today MacRumors is reporting about EU-base regulations. This EU bias just HAS TO STOP!

I think there's slight room for a complaint. MacRumors wrote the title. The linked page for the survey shows a different title - also failing to mention the US.

Personally, I found it misleading when I encountered it since I only read the title before moving on to other articles that interested me more. I was genuinely left with the impression that 70% of users plan to upgrade. There is a responsibility to get the title right and this one isn't. However, I'm not sure it's a US bias rather than just careless editing.

There are other countries? I thought they were mythical, like Narnia. I guess you learn something new everyday.

But, let’s say for the sake of argument, there are “other” countries, the US (You Ess) spells us, think about it. Us, as in all the silly little hoomans.

However, this is yet another culturally specific reference that not all of us understand, as we do not hail from the country, or culture, that gave rise to it.

So... you thought that - in a thread about cultural bias - someone had inexplicably posted a totally irrelevant, random factoid about precipitation during electrical storms that urgently needed correction?

I have to say, it would be nice to see more "?200 off MacBook Air at <insert non-US store name>" articles - but, sadly, that's mostly because <insert non-US store name> hasn't actually knocked ?200 off the price. :)

That happens all the time on MacRumors, as well as oddly irrelevant questions and bizarre, random pleas for help, as even a cursory glance through the message boards will reveal.

Has MacRumours ever done post tagging, so that e.g. you could have a weekly e-mail bulletin containing only Apple product rumours, or only software news, or discounts etc? Counting back through the last few Front Page pages about 25% of posts are US-only (either local discounts or products that are only available in the US), and surely a higher proportion during quiet periods between the big events. It would be nice if these could be on a different page (not least because further highlight the difference in PPP from the rest of the world) but a lot of MR's income might come from these affiliate posts, which would then get fewer views.
