Really? A Kia? You think you look rich driving a Kia off the lot? Really?

Uh, no, no you don't.

My personal experience is obviously different!

Depends on what you classify a millionaire to be. I classify it to be someone with 1 million or more in their bank account. Many people "look" rich or make a million a year and drive range rovers or even higher up bentleys and such but make payments on them and are up to their eyeballs in debt.

I guess so. The 300 is the most likely candidate in that group. The rest, meh.

The 300? Yeah when people put a Shiney Grill on it? Like Kat Williams said, "That is not a phantom, ni**a. That is a Chrysler 300."

There are lots of stories about tastefully modified MX5/Miatas that have been mistaken for much more expensive cars such as Lotus.

i classify a millionaire to have assets worth over £1000000. Debts being negative assets.

Yeah I can see the point of the article - those cars have a certain ascetic that mimics prestige marques.

If you're a petrolhead though, you're not going to be deceived by any of them. The Miata has a status as a great value, great handling roadster - it doesn't have a class status however.

You could fool a few folks with the Kia Amanti

I would assume many more don't flaunt it

Yeah, a lot of people really don't want the attention - and being rich and having it all isn't exactly lauded in public, people are more likely to be angsty around and towards you if you have obvious wealth. People are edgy to you if you're young and have a nice BMW (in the UK anyway), I can imagine the hate you'd get for driving around in a top marque.

If 80% of millionaires are first generation, then these people won't have a lot of close equal wealth friends, and I'd imagine that would be reason for not wanting to flaunt wealth.

Entertainers I think would be an exception to that....

Yup. It's part of their image. If you are rapping about 28's and Lambos, you better have a Lambo and something sitting on 28's.

If you are a CEO of a Financial group that counsels clients on saving, well, it is acceptable to look like you save too.

Warren Buffet, for example drives a Cadillac DTS (net worth ~62B) while Lil Wayne has a Rolls Royce Phantom (net worth 75M; still nothing to laugh at).

Nothing says doucher more than someone that wants to appear wealthier than they really are. It's like the Scottsdale Millionaire - driving around in an SL 600 but can't write a nine dollar check. :)

Not saying they are anywhere close to high class, but Kia is stepping up there game.

I notice Hyundai has been doing that too.

I can not say that any of those cars would give me that impression. Of course, just because someone is driving a luxury car does not make them rich - most likely, they just have have a larger car payment.

Most millionaires drive ordinary American made cars, maybe a few years old. Just sayin'.

This is true - most millionaires drive and buy american vehicles. It is hard to become affluent buying new luxury vehicles every few years. Check out the book "The Millionaire Next Door".

Absolutely. There's a guy around here, lives in a crummy looking run-down semi-detached yet there's a jock off Bentley in the driveway. Whereas my godfather, a multimillionaire, has just a regular mid-range BMW and Audi.

Some people value cars more than anything.
Some very rich people don't value cars at all.
