THICKER iPad and LTE iPhone Next Summer

My question is why the thicker iPad? I have1st gen and its too thick compared to the iPad 2! And I'm worried about that LTE iPhone, will they sell it in Ireland where there is no LTE?!

it is a possibility that the iPad can get 8% or something like that thicker which is not much by anymeans, it needs this thickness because Apple is supposedly experimenting with iPads with retina displays included and these displays require more backlighting
