1. A symbol in the status bar at the top, to indicate a missed call, txt, email, reminder, etc. Most phones have this (an envelope icon for txts etc.) and it just serves as a constant reminder you've got an unread txt/missed call, if you're doing something else on the phone and aren't neccessarily looking at the home screen.

2. Vibrate option for events other than just an incoming call! ie. Txt message, calendar reminder, etc.

3. Ability to change the individual sounds for txt message, calendar reminder, email, etc.

4. Some basic punctuation keys on the MAIN keyboard without having to switch to symbol view - there seems to be room for these! "." "," "!" and "?" would be so much more useful accessible all the time. Or better still, a customisable keyboard so you can add the symbols etc. you use the most.

Just some ideas, hopefully will be fixed in a future software update. Still won't stop me from getting an iPhone when it finally gets to the UK though :D

I am sure a lot of that maybe addressed in a software update. The only thing I would like that I was not expecting at all is function keys. I wanted to be able to totally access the database at work, but considering that very few people use these keys I knew it was highly unlikely to get them.

1) GPS
2) Better speaker
3) iChat using TCP/IP via EDGE, rather than a pseudo-IM, threaded SMS client.
4) Flash capability in the browser
5) Ability to save data from the web to the phone, and transfer to the computer
6) landscape-mode keyboard for all apps, not just the browser
7) a version of Terminal.app and ssh
8) User-replaceable battery
9) A non-recessed headphone jack
10) Ability to have the phone recognized as a drive on the computer
11) Bluetooth syncing
12) Ability to use phone as modem to connect computer to the Internet
13) A carrier other than AT&T

On the home page it puts numbers in red circles on the appropriate app for all those things. What's so hard about pressing the one and only button to see what's what.

If you switch it to silent mode, it vibrates for all these things.

This goes hand-in-hand with not being able to use your own sounds for the main ring too. I hope this gets fixed in a software patch. Soon!

I have noticed that as an issue already. Once nice thing though, is that it automatically flips back to letters from symbols when you hit [space].

The really cool thing that hasn't come up yet is that, because this runs on OS X, has no fixed buttons and is controlled through iTunes, almost anything is fixable with a software patch! Only the hardware is set.

Rayward: You have an iPhone then?

So, it just vibrates for txt message/calendar reminder ONLY while in silent mode? Or, when you turn on "vibrate" in the sounds settings, does that also select vibrate for the other events as well as an incoming call, meaning you can also set these other events to vibrate while in Ring mode?

Could you have a look at my thread here and answer some similar questions? :)

Also, what are the sounds used for text message, email and calendar reminder? Oh and, does it put a red circle in the Calendar app when you miss a reminder?!

Thanks!

Lots of things to deal with here. There is an option to have it vibrate with the ring as well as in silent mode. New voicemails and texts have one sound; e-mail is different and calendar alerts are different again.

Don't know about the other stuff yet. Some many features, so little time!

What about wireless stereo headphones?

Since this iPhone is supposed to replace my iPod, I was looking forward to the chance to upgrade to wireless stereo headphones, since I knew the phone would have Bluetooth.

Unfortunately, I can't find any information on wireless headphones - it seems that the Bluetooth only works for one-ear headsets.
 I'm assuming this means the iPhone doesn't have "A2DP" support?

Is this correct, or am I just missing something?

(1) chapter selection pulldown menu when watching movies.
(2) 3g, although I have Been very pleaded with edge.
(3) period on the main keyboard screen or a quick command for it.
(4) if you magnify near the top of the screen, you can't see what you are magnifying.

Overall I love the iPhone. For the record, this post was written very with it.

Cheers, when/if you find out the other stuff, let us know :D

So the bottom line is:-

1. Can you set txt message and calendar reminders to vibrate while in SILENT mode (as well as incoming call)?
2. Can you set txt message and calendar reminders to vibrate while in RING mode (as well as incoming call)? Therefore the phone would sound an alert AND vibrate for all these events.

It needs a finder. Some way to put regular files on it, like word documents or pdfs, notes, etc. Right now you have to email everything to yourself and then browse your files from your email inbox. Really lame. This could also solve the problem of not being able to save images from safari. Even a "add to photo library" would be sweet.

With 10.5's new coverflow finder mode and quick look, I would think that a finder application on the iPhone could look really cool and be fun to use. It could also function as a bridge to the missing "disk mode" that all iPods have. Imagine being able to drag and drop files into the iPhone on your desktop and then being able to find them in the iPhone's finder. Even if they are not editable, 10.5's coverflow and quick look lets you flip through keynote presentations and pdfs with multiple pages.

I really hope they make something like this for iPhone. It would increase its usability a lot.

I've a feeling lots more is to come - particularly linked to the Leopard release in October. iWork for iPhone, Quicklook for iPhone (ultra-simple file system, and with this should come the ability to download/upload stuff from websites. Since you've no way of accessing/saving this data at the moment as there's no file system, that's probably the reason you can't). It has to come!

Just vobrate for Txting.. I thought it could do tht if you silenced it w/ the switch on the side.

iPhone needs Bluetooth stereo!

The newer audio-playing phones (particularly from Motorola and Samsung) support wireless stereo headphones, finally allowing you to cut the cord. But the iPhone doesn't... which is really weird, since if you dig around in the About info you find out the iPhone's Bluetooth stack is provided by a company call Open Interface, and if you go to their website (http://www.oi-us.com) they hype their stereo support. So for some reason, Apple seems to have the software but didn't want to enable it. And this is the next generation?

i'm surprised that i never see anyone else complaining about the lack of an SMS queue or Outbox. i live in nyc and its impossible to work on my sms correspondence when in the subway. i should be able to read msgs, answer them, and they should automatically send when i resurface to the streets. that's how my blackberry worked, and that's how all my friends' $50 phones work.

really really annoying.

I suppose, but having the icon bar is more practical.
