A couple of days ago I shut the lid on my macbook pro 15" (bought around nov' 07) and since opening the backlight isn't coming on.

About a month ago I had it fail due to the nvida problem so there's a new logic board in it.
I can see the screen is working by holding a light at it and an external disply works fine. Yesterday I had it running and after a couple of hours it looked like the backlight was trying to come back on, flickered to maybe 30% brightness.

I've taken it to the mac seller i bought it from and they're telling me the inverter isn't replaceable according to the apple run system they use for parts and it would have to be a whole new lid.

Sounds a bit overkill to me and by doing a bit of research I think it could be the inverter and they seem to be available on ebay. BUT...does this sound reasonable and if so how do I know what inverter to get as there seems to be a whole load with different numbers. Will this number be printed on the inverter that's in the machine at the moment?

cheers in advance for any help.
