Browsing Macrumors, went to do something and came back to find it frozen. Shut it down, restart no chime, black screen.

Tried a few things, same deal. CAPS lock and NUM lock lights work so I know it's getting power.

Last time I had this happen it was exactly the same and the issue was the logicboard. Except that time I was able to boot a few times. Right now, nothing.

I'll give it a bit and take a few cracks at it, but if it is dead well…that logicboard had a good run. I got it in 2009 as "on it's last legs". LOL, come to think of it, I got it Dec. 24th, 2009 so four years was pretty good.

Looks like I'll be trolling eBay for a new logicboard though. Maybe take the opportunity to find a new top and bottom case.

Writing this on my 1.67Ghz 17" PowerBook G4 by the way.

Have you tried a PMU reset?
Using a good 65W power adapter?
Did you try removing ALL the RAM, then try a power on?
If you don't even get an error beep with no RAM, then the logic board is likely the culprit (!)

Check.

Brand new, been serving 65W since I got it and my other 17" reports it as 65W too.

Check. Nothing.

Yeah, I'm figuring that's what it is. I've had it happen on my old TiBook too, same symptoms.

Sigh. Like I said, I got a good four years out of it. Not bad for being on it's last legs.

you gave power button good 10 secs holding down and no battery or ac?

do you have both ram slots filled? (maybe try one and then the other)

Had the same symptoms with a clamshell iBook about 10 years ago. It needed a logicboard replacement. USB ports had power too.

Yeah, just tried that.

I'm not even feeling power to it now. The CAPS lock and NUM keys still light, but that's it.

She's dead. Ah well, four years I got for $152.50. Pretty good!

New logicboard, here I come…
