Thinksecret has an article up on their RSS feed but not the main site so far claiming we may see a widescreen iPod before Christmas! No more news until the article is fully up.

Edit some transcript:
Apple is committing significant resources to completing the final spec and that it may, just may, enter manufacturing by late October, barely in time for the holiday buying season.

The substantial improvements in iPod battery life delivered by Tuesday's update means Apple has undoubtedly figured out how to power the larger display and dynamic interface without compromising portability.

We must stress the odds are currently stacked against a 2006 release for the touch-screen iPod.

ThinkSecret is full of ....

Wait for "iTV"... ; I'm sure it will be released with that.

You want to bet on it 'never' happening?

It will happen it's just how long it takes for Steve to be happy.
Twenty dollars says it will not happen by May of '07

I will personally mail you a crisp $20 bill if it is released anytime before then.

(or how ever many pounds $20 is)

Ahh May is different to never, I won't bet because it could be as late as this time next year in my opinion, but thanks for the offer ;)

Not Again.

*shrugs*

It's never going to happen.

Imagine a 3.5 inch lcd in your back pocket.

It will happen, and only an idiot will put it in their back pocket.

My 40gb iPod was stolen 4 weeks ago (4th geb b/w). I am waiting for my rule of upgrading to become true

if (new iPod= significant new feature)&&(new iPod= twice the storage capacity)

one down and one to go.

I hope so...and when I say 249 for an Full iPod, I thought..new high end Model before the Keynote was over...a 20Gb set up is not that big considering how long we were at 60Gbs.

Or maybe this is me try to get my self not to replace my 60Gb 5G with an 80Gb if Apple won't fix my 60Gb(dust inside screen issue)

Although apple's high $399 price is currently unoccupied, i don't think that necessarily indicates that some kind of superPod is in the works.

i think the price cut was made to undercut the coming competition from ZUNE. the rumored price for zune is $299 and MS is certainly going to put all sorts of marketing weight behind the product. but now, for just 50 bucks more than that, you can get a top-of-the-line iPod. zune would have to be pretty darn compelling to compete with that.

no matter what rumor is, Apple works hard to develop 6G video ipod. it's inevitable. look at itunes movie store what will be happened next. it will be coming out soon at least macworld 2007.

Yes I agree, it is the logical next step based on their movement towards video over the months. The 6G Video iPod WILL happen, it's just when!

touch screen

Obviously, I'm a new here, but is the touch screen iPod supposed to be like the Nintendo DS? I've seen other people post about this and I tend to agree that having a touch screen iPod that plays video on the same screen would cause a number of issues, namely screen scratching and fogging.
