Currently on iPhone 13 Pro in a Spigen liquid air+screen protector since day one. Have definitely dropped it multiple times but no problems except 2 screen protectors, replaced and screen was 100% unharmed.

I am a very active hiker and trail runner so my phone is out there with me, very often in+out of pockets and whatnot.

I was thinking for iPhone 17 pro, possibly going AppleCare route and then caseless?

Obviously it’s an “insurance” which at its core I basically always always turn down… except it covers accidental damage and my phone is probably the thing in my life most likely to get damaged.

On the flip side, the first repair is still basically $300+ CAD (AppleCare + service fee) and only cheaper for subsequent repairs if at all. and that’s IF I even need a repair/replacement?

I wouldn’t say I baby my phone just basic prudent protection but I know of drops I’ve done (like in my lap then I get out of car and phone falls to ground) and seem to have mostly just gotten lucky that nothing broke? Or maybe they are simply more durable than ever.

Soooo yeah - what are your thoughts or experiences on AppleCare for iPhone?

For additional context: a damaged iPhone wouldn’t financially ruin me and I could go buy another buy it would likely be an annoying hassle?

Given your last sentence, I suggest you go without AC+ and self-insure. Put the monthly amount you would have spent on coverage aside. That way, you have it if needed. If you don't end up needing it, you have money for your next Apple toy.
