I'm thinking about selling both my rMBP and Asus Zenbook prime to get a 13" 8gb i5 MBA. I perhaps might need it for windows and running a few programs that only need a single core (PhD stuff) along with the usual Word/net etc. Do you think a MBA would be ok for this?

I think the MBA can handle those things nicely but wouldn't you prefer staying with the rMBP and selling just the asus? I think it just makes more sense because you still keep a better screen and hardware.
Or do you need the new MBA for the battery and even bigger portability?
If so go ahead and buy it!

Why? the macbook air is a good product sure, but why sell a pro for it? I say keep your laptops man.
