Thinking about buying a second display

I'm considering purchasing a second display for use with my MacBook Pro (and for use with the Mac Pro I intend to buy in 2010 as the MacBook Pro's replacement). I'm not going to buy now, but definitely some time later this year, especially if the Apple Displays get updated before then (and not just a price drop). I am especially curious about how well resolution independence and Apple's larger displays work together, but I guess that won't be well known until Leopard is officially released. Also, which size is best for me? I do some light graphics and audio work, as well as software development.

I'm pretty happy with my 22" display from ViewSonic, it's fantastic. But, you might want to tell us what your price range is.

All 3 displays Apple offers are within my price range currently. I just want to save up some more before actually buying

EDIT: Anything under US$2000 is what I'm looking for. I know, I could buy an iMac with that much set aside for a display
