Thinking about getting Apple TV...NEED ADVICE

What exactly is it? I mean is it so you can put stuff from your iphone and ipad onto your TV? like watching the Iplayer on your TV...How exactly does it all work? sorry if this is a stupid question.

what channel does all this need to be on for example?

How will you be able to register it with the iphone and ipad?
 
The apple TV output is connected to your TV with an HDMI connector. Unless you have a TV with an HDMI input don't even consider it. THe Apple tv can get its source video content from the internet, ITunes, an iphone or IPAD using airplay.

You need to connect the appletv with wifi, to facilitate airplay from those various devices.

Well I have channels that is

HDMI 1,2 and 3

guessing that would be ok?
