OSX 10.8. A feature is Airplay Mirroring from your mac. Sure there are other ways to do it but this is how I would like it to be done.

If I don't have a Mac would waiting make a difference

I just piocked up an apple tv a week ago. I really enjoy it. It mirrors anything on my iphone 4S or ipad 2, it connects to Netflix and some other internet sites and it plays all of my iTunes media and pictures on my 60" tv screen. I also use Keynote and powerpoint A LOT in my job and at church and the Apple TV is great. I can run presentations right from my iPhone or iPad without wires very easily. Love it.

Just FYI most stores don't have them in stock right now.
Looks like there will be a refresh coming soon. I wouldn't
be surprised if it was in the same time frame as the new
iPad. Maybe 1080 mirroring??

I really hopw there is no new model coming. I always get my MAC hardware just before something new comes out. I bought my iBook G4 a month before Mac started using the INTEL chips. I got my original iPhone a week before the 3G came out. and so on. ugh.

Never thought of taking the ATV to work for presentations. Thanks!

Samething here is Canada. All stores but Apple stores are out of stock.

We may see something new in March.

It's really great. I go to a lot of places that have inaccesable wifi so I bring my apple tv, airport express, and ipad 2 or iphone 4S. The airport express is just used to allow communication between the apple tv and iDevice. Remember to bring a wifi unit. Even if it doesn't connect to the internet you need it.

Dude, that one is on you. I think everybody knew the 3G was coming out, even my wife.

---------------------

As to what we use it for, lots of things and everyone who is our house and sees it, wants one.

1) Use it to view videos from iPhones on TV via Airplay.
2) Play music on TV from iTunes on TV
3) Watch Movie Trailers
4) Ripped P90X and put in iTunes. No more fiddling with discs.
5) Buy missed TV episodes (hate watching TV shows on a computer)

I don't do Netflix because streaming quality sucks IMHO, but you can.

Maybe I'm missing something but it seems that unlike their other devices where Apple has taken something that already exists (smartphone, tablet, etc) and made me realize (convinced me) that I NEED to have this device and I need to have it from Apple... I haven't seen that from the apple TV.

Now before you down-vote my post... please provide me links to any type of literature or advertisements, keynote speeches, etc. that cast appleTV in the same light as the iPhone/iPad (i.e. "you need this in your life because...").

Apple TV is one of those things that Apple considers a pet project. I don't think I've ever seen an advertisment for it. But I will tell you one thing, if you own and ipad or iphone, it's a must have product. You get a LOT for your $99.

You could say the same thing about their Airport Extreme Base Stations and Time Capsules.

Thanks for the legit replies!

I do own an iPhone (hopefully an iPad when the 3 comes out) and I will be looking at the functionality of AppleTV and how it interacts with the two. I honestly know nothing about it but I've been looking for an alternative to cable TV since Time warner cable is a joke anymore...
