I really messed up when I went all on on my 14 pro max and have been thoroughly underwhelmed by the dynamic island thus far. I even considering picking up a regular old 14 instead. Anyone else completely underwhelmed by the 14 Pro (Max)? I miss my 13 Pro 😭

I personally find the Max phones too big. I did have a 12 Pro Max, and I really did enjoy it as a device, but when the 13 came around I made the decision to go back down in size.

I don’t really see the benefit of going to a 14 though. A regular 14 is going to be a slightly worse version of your previous 13 Pro. It makes more sense to go down to the 14 Pro, or to just go back to the 13 Pro.

I’ve been looking for a 13 pro without any luck.

you are wasting time and money doing anything but keeping the phone. it is functionally identical to the 13 Pro besides the AOD (which you can turn off) and dynamic island. if someone walked up to you and offered them their 13 Pro for your 14 pro with some cash on top sure go for it but you did not "really mess up". that is demonstrably silly. you're overthinking this.

IMHO, going to a regular 14 makes ZERO sense. Mostly because it’s a slightly worse version of the iPhone 13 Pro. I understand we have used the botch and “gotten used to it”, but in all honesty the notch has been and still is a bit outdated. I also understand that dynamic island isn’t the “Endgame” but it is a step in the correct direction. Some people love it and some people hate it. Personally for me I just think it’s a design refinement.

If it were me I would definitely try to find a 13 Pro before going to a regular 14 or 14 Plus just for the fact that the 13 Pro’s are overall better devices despite being a year older.

Apart from holding the FaceID cameras too of course. Not sure whether it has to do anything other than look black in all honesty. It’s just part of the phone.
I’m just saying that Dynamic Island is just a notch (OK, cutout…) that offers a little bit more than the earlier notch.

Even if you’re “underwhelmed” by Dynamic Island, going back to the old notch is not an upgrade.

Opposite here, I had the 12 pro max and went for the pro as I convinced myself that the lax is too big and heavy. Now few days with the 14 pro and it feels so tine, I even got my S9+ out of the drawer and it's screen is bigger than the 14 pro. If I want to swap I'm gonna eat some cost. One thing for sure, it's better for my health as o consume less media as opposed to using the 12 PM

I think it all depends on what you are looking for in a phone as to whether you get the 13 Pro Max, the 14P PM or the 14+. I looked at all of them, and decided to go with the 14+. Reasoning: going form a 12 mini to a larger screen as eyes aren't what they used to be. Don't really need a super duper 48 MM camera, pro motion not a big deal as I don't game (probably wouldn't notice he difference, anyway), Dynamic Island not a big deal to me, and it is not fully developed yet. he 14+ improved, and cooler operating A15 chipset, still plenty fast and the battery life is superb. I'm pretty happy with my purchase, but just have to get adjusted to the larger size moving up from the Mini. I suppose the best response here is that the current lineup of phones offers something for everyone. The haters are going to hate, the ravers are going to rave. Figure out what you need, what you can afford, and go with that and be happy.

I’ll be honest I’ve never considered anything ‘notch’ related be it the first notch, second notch or dynamic island an upgrade lol. It’s just there on the phone and other features tend to interest me more. I certainly wouldn’t have upgraded this year for dynamic island on its own and most people I know have skipped this year altogether. Whatever floats the boat I say .

The Max does not fit as well in my rear pocket as well as my 14 Pro, making it to easy to loose when you sit down. If i need big i go to my iPad Pro. or Mac Book Pro. I LOVE ALL 3..... But if you're not into Photography just get a 14 Plane Jane which is really a fine Phone.

A refurb our new if you can find one 13 Pro would be my advice over a regular 14…

Just be 100% sure you won’t miss having the best iPhone ever made, on paper at least.

For context - I was eager to "upgrade" from the 13 Pro Max to either a regular 14 or a 14 Plus because I didn't want Dynamic Island and thought I could use a lighter phone.

The problem is they weakened the 14 so much by not upgrading the processor that I just kept the 13 Pro Max.

I actually hope the regular 15 keeps the notch, because I will just buy that and keep it for a while
