I currently still have a 2013 air that I've gotten on release day and it has served me well and continues to do so, that is until
I recently got into video editing as a hobby and have been enjoying creating videos. Unfortunately, my air is really struggling to edit videos on iMovie (I wanted to splurge for final cut pro once I got a new mac). On top of that, there isn't much storage space left so that's another thing I'd like to update along with the ram.

I was wondering if I could double up a trade-in with the educational discount offered by apple? I tried looking on the website and there doesn't seem to be an option that allows me to finance it simultaneously to buying a new pro. Could I buy the Pro, then trade in my air and have whatever trade-in value go towards my balance? (Not sure if that's a thing)

I am also still interested in that new 14" mac rumored to come out..... eventually... so I was wondering how do Pros generally hold their values once a new model is rolled out? I was thinking about trading it to apple and then paying the rest (Just to avoid having to resell it myself).

Thanks all!

You can't do it all in one transaction. You have to trade in first, then use the credit you receive to make your purchase.

Would I be able to speed up the process at an apple store? I do still need a laptop for general schoolwork.

Yes, but only slightly because you can only use the student discount online. So they’ll do the trade in in store, but then make you purchase the computer online for pick up.

I would have thought they would have some available in store? I'd still have to wait for it to get shipped to the store then pick it up? Well at least that's a bit faster I suppose.

You can buy with educational discount in the store. I have done it many times. I saw a guy do it in store just last week.
Interesting. What area do you live? I know stores used to allow it in the South Bay Area, but they don’t seem to anymore.

The Sales Policy for Education clearly states that it's available online or in an Apple Store: "The above purchases can be made either online, in an Apple Retail Store, or through an Authorized Campus Reseller. Total product quantities remain the same regardless of where your purchase is made." [emphasis mine]

@foodle & @WildSky
Thank you both for the help!

I will miss my ports though, so I'm trying to get a feel for the dongle life and the cost.
(I'm old school and still rely on my USB-A and the SD card ports 🥴)

Will do!
I'm moving in a couple of weeks so there are quite a bit of other things I need to get under control first, luckily there is a nearby apple store near my new place so once I get settled I'll probably pull the trigger then.
