This I'm guessing is an obvious question but I'd like to get it clear in my head.

I'm going to US (currently in UK) and am thinking of getting iPod touch. I'll be there 22->29th June. Now I know that the new update is coming out early July. Will 2.0 only to be available to new iPods bought after this time? Or will they be free for those who bought after the announcement (i.e. yesterday)?

What happened in January (presumably this will be the precedent)?

Thanks.

A Touch without the July update will likely be $10 cheaper than a new Touch that comes with the updated firmware.

I doubt it. I don't think the update is critical or pricey enough to bother shipping/selling w/it on it. The Touch will likely stay as is and the update an inexpensive after purchase option, regardless of when you bought your ipod. That is until the next refresh after September.
