Thinking of getting an iPhone 4s, but can it be unlocked?

I am thinking of moving to iphone 4s and I am getting it from another carrier for cheaper price. I heard that it can be unlocked now as a new software is out?

Can I unlock my phone using that software?

I have not used or keep up with the updates for awhile but if someone can please let me know.

Unless you buy it unlocked or your carrier offers IMEI unlocks, the only,other possibility is a sim interposer.

If you get the newest version, it covers 5.0, 5.0.1 and 5.1
