I'm looking at getting the Mini 4 as a Chrismas gift to myself. My question is: did the Mini 3 go on sale last year right before Christmas? Should I get it now, or do you think there's a good chance of it going on sale before Christmas? Thanks!

It may it may not. The apple watch just went on sale at bestbuy for less than Black Friday prices. Nobody expected that. These companies are competing for customers so who knows.
Mine had one for $355 open box. I just jumped on a base model space grey though I didn't want gold. I wasn't gonna get one at full price but at $100 off why not get it as a compliment to the pro. Initial impressions are that this is way better to use than the air 2 or the iPhone six s plus. It even feels lighter than the six s plus but I imagine this is because it is less dense.
I have Iphone 6 plus 128gb and just ordered today, Ipad Mini 4, and Ipad Pro both 128gb.

I think the only reason that happened was because sales may have been low due to the only real update between the mini 2 and mini 3 was the touch ID. I doubt we would get lucky and have a bigger sale on the mini 4 this year. Honestly even during black friday there weren't any great deals on discounted LTE iPad mini 4s, which really disappointed me. Im just going to hold out for them appearing in the Apple refurb store

This is the exact combination I did, purchased my iPad mini 4 from Best Buy ($100 off) and used the Discover Apple Pay promo so I'll get an additional 22% cash back. Details of the Discover Apple Pay promo here, but it ends at the end of 2015. If you rush you might be able to get it all set up by then.

You only get 22% if you are a new Discover card member - I believe its 90 days. Otherwise you get 11%.

The double cash back is valid for the first year of opening up your discover it card, but its new members only. Additionally, as you stated above, the Apple pay promo ends 12/31/15. So there are only 18 more days to get 22% cash back, otherwise it will go down to 2% (New members only).
