Thinking wheel while in call

Ok I do alot of conf calls so on my head set alot. I noticed this everytime I am in a call wifi or 3g i get the thinking wheel. Anyone know why? Sorry if this is a stupid question. Pic below look next to the wifi that is what i am talking about.

Can you tell us if this weel appears always when you do a call? I mean: Whitout speaker, w/o headset, etc... It seems like another program is working in the background... is this Jailbroken?

Happens all the time while in a call no matter what i use.. I am not jail broken.. I think this is a large part of my battery drain.
