Now that the iPhone 4 is out, I just picked up my first iPhone, a marked-down 3gs. As cases go, how thin can you go while still protecting against drops? The specks candyshell looks nice, but I'm wondering if I can go thinner.

I have an Otterbox Commuter. It's relatively thin and I've thrown it at the grown multiple times to show off its durability. I drop this thing all the time and my phone is still in immaculate condition when I remove the case.

these come in 2 styles: a case or a bumper type wrap

both use a special material that is soft and flexible but hardens on impact, absorbing shock and protecting the phone

you can search ebay and find several videos of phones using this case being dropped off roofs and thrown against walls
