Apologies if I missed this discussed elsewhere, but has it been verified that third party apps (specifically, non-Apple workout apps) will be able to use the always-on display? Or is this just confined to watchface complications and Apple's own apps?

Nike Run Club is. Others if want to be compatible fully will have to update the app and I'm sure all the major ones will do.
