I wonder if its possible and if there is anyone that have managed to get an SSD, for instance Samsung 840 256GB, installed in their iMac?

I don't want to have an external SSD in an enslosure and I dont like the fusion drive.

So I'm wondering if its possible to order an iMac with the standard 7200rpm HDD and replace that drive with a SSD.

Storage is not a problem because I will get a NAS eventually.

Yes it is possible and has been done.
You don't even need to search the forum to see that. Just take a look around ;)

You should search the forum. Especially the thread titled "Rip those iMacs open". Lots of useful info.

Long story short, yes you can install 3rd party SSD. Crucial m4 drives seem problematic but Samsung 8 series drives seem to be supported natively. The iMacs also have a special connection to attach a blade SSD. Google OWC blade SSD for more information.

Thanks guys, I have searched the internet like a madman, and the answers were right in front of me :D
