Orignally, I was planning on buying the iPhone 5 at full retail price, but then, I got to thinking that wouldn't it be cheaper to port the lines number to google voice, cancel the existing line (as the ETF is prorated), reactivate the new line and get a subsided upgrade? If I have had my contract for 12 months, the prorated rate would be 230$. I plan on buying a 32gb iPhone 5 so the price is 300$. The total comes 530$ vs 750$.

On second thought, can't I just pay my ETF and get out of my contract without actually terminating the line?

One final thing, if I used this upgrade on a family members line who has tired data and reactivated it on my line with unlimited data, I should be okay right? I've heard Verizon has been giving these people a rough time.
