I received an email today from apple about a "shopping event" friday. It said "Lots of gifts. One day not to miss. The special one-day Apple shopping event." Does anyone know what this is about or what deals there will be. I was thinking about picking up an MBP tomorrow at my University's Bookstore but might hold off if Apple will have a better deal. Any thoughts?

It's "Black Friday", an American sales day that Apple seems to be replicating around the world.
It's possible you might see Education style discounting (ie; 5-10%?) on a range of products online and at Apple Stores for one day only including Macbooks and iPods, not sure about MBP, wait til Friday if I was you..
Might well be that the EDU discount is better, haven't been able to determine if they are allowing EDU+Black Friday discounts together..

People should stay home on Black Friday and eat all of their leftover pie instead of rushing out to the stores. The economy be damned - we're all skrooed anyway.

Yes, to clear out last year's iPod stock to college kids to make room for the new stuff.
They won't be giving regular people free iPods. Don't get your hopes up.
