Something about self driving cars doesn't sit well with me.

That goes for most humanoid drivers as well though.

In California, they are discussing that all self driving cars need a driver. Kind of defeats the reason for having a self driving car. I myself am more worried about drones delivering packages :D.

george hotz, aka 'geohot' first jailbroke the iphone alone....getting me into apple and the iphone. he kind of feel off the face of the earth the last two years...well, this is what he is up too.

I think more about people texting while driving. So unpredictable.

Nope. Drivers kill as many people as firearms do. Self driving cars are better at driving than humans are.

Just saw a news blurb about accidents in the area where Google is testing its self-driving cars. Evidently the accidents occur because the self-driving are obeying traffic laws. Go figure.

Personally, I can't wait for self-driving cars to become ubiquitous. My husband and I will no longer argue over who does the driving when we go visit the relatives, and we will all arrive at our destinations well rested.

I'll buy a self driving car on the following conditions.
  1. I can still drive it manually when I want.
  2. I can get it to drive me home from the pub when I've had too many.
  3. It's affordable.
I think we are a way off 2 and 3.

Indeed we are. And that remains the main advantage of the horde over the car. Stumbling out of the pub, when you had had too many, you could fall over the back of your horse, (or scramble into a carriage) and mutter to the horse, 'Home'.

Knowing that a warm stable awaited, and knowing exactly where 'home' was, the animal would proceed to trot along with an impeccable sense of direction, no small focus and a singular perseverance and would get himself (or herself) home along with his or her utterly plastered owner home safely.

You can't fall into a car, stick the key into ignition, collapse over the steering wheel and mumble 'Home'. It just doesn't yet work that way or understand such commands.

Oh, the figuring out is fairly easy, alas.

The self-driving cars obey traffic regulations. Those driven by humans, less so, unfortunately.

until you jailbreak your self-driving car to allow for some fun stuff :)

but, meh. wake me up when they invent a self-driving lane-splitting motorbike.

cheers
