So I've been wanting the iPhone 4 for a while, and decided I would wait in line at the Apple store for one overnight. The store is in the mall, and we were instructed by the employees to line up next to the movie theater. So we did. And it's 10:30, I'm the 5th in line, and feeling pretty damn good about myself. Then these two security guards walk up and tell us we're on private property and need to leave. We, of course, tell them that we're here for the iPhone launch and the Apple store told us to line up. They said, no, you can't be here, we're setting up lines at 5 in the morning and come back then. In the meantime go line up at a gas station or something.

And we say, that's a terrible idea, there's going to be hundreds of people and they're going to kill each other waiting in line unsupervised and then rush here at 5 AM and push and shove and basically it'll be a disaster. Plus, we say, you're going to be turning people away every five minutes for the whole night. Wouldn't it be easier to just line us up here? And they tell us, hey, we don't care, that's not are problem. And we say it will be your problem if someone gets hurt. And they say it's still not their problem. So then they have the cops come and escort us all off the property. So now, we have to come back at 5 and I guarantee you, I GUARANTEE you, someone is going to get hurt.

Sounds like something a bureaucracy would decide to enforce without applying reason. 'Tis sad. It's like if the forced people to wait to line up for Black Friday.

If you want to be the one to make it work, go make a TON of numbered cards, have the security tell people to go to the gas station, and give people a number as they show up. If people go with it then everything will be dandy

It's ridiculous. The Apple store manager talked to the mall manager and confirmed it was okay to do.

Also, does anyone know if Walmart and Best Buy were having lines? I went by mine and there were none. I thought they were getting them on launch day as well.

Holy crap that is total BS! Sorry for your trouble, I though the cops would be understanding, since lines happen almost every year! Geez

That's a good idea! But go buy tickets or special cards no one can replicate, if the security is gonna be like that, take things into your own hands. Tell the security guard what you're going to do and have him verify the tickets when you all move to the store, HOPEFULLY he'll do it  UGH this makes me mad...

I know... at this point, really, I'm just going to say screw it and try to get there at 4:30 and sprint for the line at 5. It's the only thing to do.

Guard is probally keeping you away so that he can sneek 20+ of his friends to the front of the line. The gas station that he mentions... Can you see the store or area where the line would be???

Viva La Resistance:D:D:D

Nope. Apparently the mall owns the streets and landscaping near it as well.

You know, that guard probably wasn't REALLY a guard. He just mugged one and dressed up as one to force you to leave so he could be first in line!:D

Yeah, haha. I got there at 4:30 AM, and there was a huge group of people standing across the street from the mall. So I joined them, and when it was 5:00 we all started walking. Once we hit the mall parking lot, we all took off in a sprint to the line set up. It was pretty insane. I got there as one of the first. There were hundreds of people there. So we waited in line... and I find out that because I'm not the account owner I can't upgrade even though I'm an authorized user. So the account owner has to be there and he was working. So that was a f**cking waste, I waited 5 hours and went through all that for nothing. So I guess I'll try tomorrow morning...

OMG! I feel your pain :( I was promised the 24th Delivery TWICE! I never got a tracking number, and my card was charged right away and I ordered on the 15th. Last night, I saw a tracking number with a delivery date of the 28th! But Apple said it might still come today, so I had to wait at home and nothin.... Now I have to take another day off for monday ughh. Anyway Go relax now man. Try again maybe tuesday an AT&T store since Apple may run out.
