This HAS to be a bug surely...?

I have a Gmail on my iPhone 3GS, running iOS4.01...

I have it set to manual everything, with push and fetch all disabled, manual set inside advanced too.

When I open my contact list, my phone goes and receives all my emails...

What the hell?

it may well be a bug..... I assume your contacts are synced with google along with the mail.... sooo I can but assume when u look at your contacts it's contacting google and maybe the phone is seeing this connection as a way to update everything linked to the account

I think your headed in the right direction. My 3Gs on 3.1.2 does the same thing though so it's not 4.0 specific. I didn't notice it when looking at contacts but usually when I'm making a call or during it. It would fetch my gmail for some reason. I do have push turned on for mobile me though. Don't know if that has anything to do with it.
