I wanted to start a new thread about this. I recently saw a for sale listing for this ibook:

1.42 GHz PPC G4
1.5 GB RAM
60 GB HD
Superdrive
14 1/4" LCD - (Larger than MACBOOK!)
Aiport Extreme
Bluetooth
Mac OS X Tiger
Applecare

Wear typical to a 1-year old system. Some minor scratches on the white shell. LCD is pristine.

Will come in original box, with original paperwork, and disks. Hard-drive will be wiped, and OS will be restored to factory state.

Will contact Apple after sale to notify of change in ownership, and transfer warranty.

Which is a better value for $800, this ibook vs. a refurbed MacBook from Apple?

The MacBook, since you can only run the latest software on an intel Mac, and you'll be able to install Leopard and run it to best effect when it comes out.

While the iBook's specs may be similar or even better, the PPC Mac is really a dead beast - OK to have if you already have one, but not the thing you'd want to actually buy. Sure, the newest PPCs will still work fine for awhile, but in the long run an intel Mac's a better buy.

The MacBook has;
-faster CPU
-faster RAM
-faster HDD
-higher res and brighter display

it is also much thinner, has a better keyboard, and a bigger trackpad. MacBook > iBook

the 14.1" screen on the iBook is physically larger than the 12" iBook but it has the same 1024x768 resolution as the smaller iBook. It just looks awful in my opinion.

The 13.3" MacBook has both a higher resolution 1280x800 and a smaller dot pitch making everything much crisper. It also has a much brighter screen than any of the iBooks (next to a MacBook display an iBook display looks like it's been turned off) and it's so much faster than an iBook it's not funny.

Good choice getting the MacBook.

Hahah, the macbook in just about every possible way. I can not think of one compelling reason why someone would purchase an old iBook for $800 0_o

Do yourself a favor and get a Macbook. I've owned 3 iBooks, and I'm on my first Macbook. There's no way I could go back to the iBook. Macbooks are superior in just about every way.
