On the Tech Specs Page for Vision Pro at the very bottom,
  • Support for Made for iPhone switch controllers
I know that support is coming to iPhones but not quite sure if they would be able to take advantage of the features of a Joy Con if for nothing else for API and patent reasons with Nintendo.

So hear me out on this, what if Nintendo and Apple worked together so those APIs were made available (like around WWDC?) and maybe Nintendo goes even further and makes a game for it, kind of how Super Mario Run was originally an iOS exclusive, but Nintendo and Apple kind of seem like they would work together anyways, and since Nintendo doesn't seem to be offering any sort of product like this in the foreseeable future, it's not something they directly compete with really at all.

Hear me out, having useable Switch controllers could be part of a killer app for this, and could make some of us a little less sour about it's uses.

Just my thought...

It would make some sense. But switch controllers aren't great 6 degrees of motion VR controllers. That's why oculus controllers for example have that halo circle of plastic.. They are tracking IR light and seeing where the controller is in exact 3D space. The switch controller from what I understand has downgraded motion tracking from the Wii controller w/ its enhanced motion capture module. I could be wrong.

An unlikely collaboration, but maybe it could happen. Certainly Nintendo would have a kick out of making a game of it.

I feel like having all those cameras and sensors on the bottom of the Vision would compensate for this. At least that seems possible?

Camera's are great for motion tracking yeah. But there is limits on the side to side and bind the player. So good motion tracking in the controller is also necessary. Several videos talk about VR controller design and tracking

Apple is not talking about Nintendo Switch controllers with this statement. They're talking about Switch Control, an accessibility feature that can map core OS interactions with hardware buttons on external devices: https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/intro-to-switch-control-iphc9d32b862/ios

Here's an example of a Made for iPhone switch controller: https://www.adaptivetechsolutions.com/tapio/

Apple's document does suggest it supports gamepads but no mention is made specifically referencing a Nintendo controller.

At the end of the day though I'm hoping someone can hackily write a driver that can make Quest 3 or Quest Pro controllers compatible. The AVP has plenty of sensors to track IR beacons and the Quest controllers don't communicate on any proprietary frequencies. If that all ends up being impossible, the Quest Pro controllers are self-tracking with onboard sensors/cameras and simply report the data back to the headset. I'll jailbreak/sideload/whatever it takes if this became possible via less-than-official means. I think it's criminal that they're not allowing any motion controllers at all.

Noooo! 😞 Oh well. There goes all hope. 😭

I don’t see games being especially advanced on AVP. Not because the hardware isn’t capable, but because Apple just doesn’t know how to operate in that world.

I'd say you will at least get some decent titles on there. Hopefully in the future it can be used in conjunction with a Mac so that you could for example, play RE4 with it.
