How simple is something like sms?

How about the 3.1 beta where sms is f****** broken?

Try to SMS within the contacts app.

It tries to send sms to only the first 3 digits of the phone number?

WTF

isn't that the whole purpose of a beta version... to work out the kinks?

Sorry, but are you an actual developer? Or did you get the 3.1 Beta "elsewhere"? I would assume the latter, since a dev wouldn't be saying things like this...unless their a rich 12 year old that gets mommy to buy them things.

Wow, that came out a lot more harsh than I thought.

I was wondering the same thing (about the "elsewhere").

Sorry I am a legal paid developer

I am not breaking NDA by complaining about a beta.

Yep, developers wouldn't be dumb enough to put a beta on a production piece of equipment -- since they are generally unstable and have some features turned off.

Always funny to see non-developers complain about how beta breaks their computers and iPhone.

Works fine here. Just double-checked ...

iPhone SDK 3.1 beta and iPhone OS 3.1 beta are pre-release software and are considered Apple Confidential Information.

Surely you saw that right next to the download link for the beta firmware....

But the only thing next to the download link on Pirate Bay is the point and laugh option box.

3.1 is working fine on my phone. But here's a handy link to help you out, that's on the iPhone dev page:

http://bugreporter.apple.com/

Instead of coming here to complain, why not do something useful and tell Apple what problems you're having so it can be fixed, or investigated? It's also conveniently located at the bottom of the iPhone Dev Center homepage, in the center...

if u hate apple so much why are you on a forum all about apple?

First of all, I don't see what are you talking about? I've been sending SMS all day on 3.1. Works perfectly.

Secondly, you are mad at Apple because a BETA OS has bugs?? You're a developer and don't see the flallacy in that logic?

Being a legit paid 'developer' does not make you a true developer. Your using a Beta, the FIRST beta, expect some bugs.

Second of all, if you bothered to do any troubleshooting for anything, you would have found many work around to your problem.

1. Click the New Message Icon in Messages (Top Left ;) )
2. Click + and add a Contact
3. Voila, so much extra time.

You guys arent understanding his problem, its happening to me too. I click the new sms icon and then the + and the name shows up in the box, i go to send the text and it comes back to me. It only tries to send it to the area code

Have tested this on my old 3G using for testing. If you create a new SMS by going to Messages and selecting new message, Clicking the + button and adding a contact it WILL work (or at least in my case).

It only doesn't work when selecting from Contacts "Text Messsage"

Besides that, it actually is just sending without an area code. Once it fails at sending if you go back it will show the number missing the area code. Unsure why it shows the area code before sending and removes after. Small bugs, will be fixed.
