I like the M1 Macs, and have a MacBook myself, and for single core tasks and 10 bit 422 footage, they're fantastic - but throw some heavy video files (red raw, canon raw, pro res raw, etc) at it and multitasking/speed becomes a huge issue.

That's why the Mac Pro is really the only Mac that you can stuff full of GPUs and actually have next level performance.

The 6900XT, and the coming (We hope anyway!) W6900X already has really stellar performance - and being a drop in upgrade is amazing. (That's the key to a great computer - being able to change with the times)

And doesn't have to be super expensive, either. I initially got a base Mac Pro, but upgraded my own ram, and 24 core CPU, all being significantly cheaper. Even the $1600 6900XT is much cheaper than a Vega ii, which it is beating in video editing performance.

Here's an example from the a benchmark I ran from this forum:

DaVinci Resolve 'Standard Candle UHD': Rocket Scienceforums.macrumors.com

I said "From my tests above, it seems like a single 6900XT is almost as fast as 2x Pro Vega ii in blur, and actually faster in TNR vs 2x Vega ii. When combining the 6900xt and the 6800xt, they are considerably faster than the 2x Vega ii pro. Very impressive so far! I would love to see 2x 6900xt vs 2x Pro Vega ii duo, I bet the 2 6900xt would give those 4 gpu a run for their money for considerably less cost"

I've been really impressed with the limited tests I've done with mine in DaVinci too. I can get smooth HEVC 4:2:2 10-bit in DR, which makes me hopeful there are further optimisations coming to FCP for this newer hardware!
