Hi there,

Just wanted to make a suggestion on thread titles. I may be the only one, but I think that thread titles with repeated question marks (?????) are annoying and unnecessary. It only suggests unnecessary urgency and importance to the thread the poster has written. Therefore I think there should be a rule that states that threads with more than one repeated question mark in the title will be deleted until renamed.

Thanks,

Ams.

Pretty harsh suggested response don't you think. In general it is relatively trivial for the mods to change a thread title, so if you think it is a problem then please report it and then we can assess the situation.

I don't see it all too often so am not sure that it is such a widespread problem that it needs to be written in to the rules

You're not the only one. I agree with you. :p
Your solution is a little harsh, yes, but all those repeated question (and exclamation) marks are annoying. :)

I know what I'm suggesting is a little trivial, but I think it's unnecessary. I think a solution to this could be: instead of adding repeated question marks, add the "?" icon in front of a post. This could be a more elegant, less annoying and more effective solution to getting your question answered.

Thank you for your tolerance,

Ams.

As a compromise, I say use of more than 3 punctuation marks in a no-no. Unless the MR poster has been named SJ's replacement. I'll also make allowance for anyone replacing Schiller, Ive or Cook

Yes. What we need are more rules at MacDisney.

Surely said:
^^^^^"Thank you for your tolerance" coming from someone named "anti-microsoft" has to be somewhat ironic, right??????

Surely that would be !!!!!!!!!!

???????? would mean its a very big question.

Stop yelling, I'm here now.

Thanks for responding so promptly.

Why not simply report any thread title that you think is inappropriate? After all, that's what this button

is for.

And yet you put it in your title? I know it was to make a point.. but sorta hypocritical...

Any post with more than five punctuation marks in a row should be redirected to a page that says in big animated letters, on the edge of a volcano, with dancing hamsters next to it, the following quote:

Five exclamation marks, the sure sign of an insane mind. - Terry Pratchett

Do we really need more rules, when the people breaking them aren't likely to know of their existence in the first place????????

???

Agreed, I think we should be less concerned about the number of question marks in a title and perhaps what the OP wrote.

who cares how many question marks are in the odd thread????

I vote for immediate deletion of completely useless threads ... forget wasteland ... just delete them.

forget wasteland

Wasteland serves two main purposes. One, as an example to others. Two, so that people know where their threads have gone. It takes about five seconds to move a thread in there.

In many cases, deleting threads can make more work because the thread starter can often contact mods asking where their thread has disappeared to.

good answer ... I never looked at it that way.

OK then ... more useless threads put straight into wasteland.
