VIdeo im talking about: This Video
For the last few days ive been watching dozens and dozens of videos on the new M1 devices, especially the Mac mini. I've watched videos from all the big Youtubers, including well known video editor and Colorists like LearColorGrading.com's YouTube channel. All these 20-30+ videos from respected personalities showed that even the base model M1 Mac mini was outperforming $3000 even $4000 Macs in 4K and 8K video file playback in FCP and especially the new M1 beta of Davinci resolve, and had amazing export times as well. They even were able to play back 8K footage in half resolution (4K), WITH tons of color grading notes and FX perfectly no stutter. So everyone is saying it's amazing. then I see This Video of these guys struggling to even play back a 4k file on new Mac mini, taking 4-5x longer than everyone else to export it. which really worried me. and it prompted people in the comments to start saying that there's some conspiracy and everyone on youtube reviewing M1s is lying or something that it performs this magically good.
Like check out these two videos from LearnColorGrading
Secret Resolve version... this will blow your mind.
DaVinci Resolve + M1: Can it edit 8K RAW?

they are pretty much in line with every review of these machines. Yet this video I linked early has TERRIBLE performance apparently trying to do the same thing. Is their Mac mini defective or is real life performance not that good? Are they trying to boost 3K subs by starting drama? I find it hard to believe that all these bigger channels are lying. Anyway I was about to hit order on a baseline Mac mini then I saw this video now im scared

I mean. Honestly the easiest thing would be to buy one a try. There is no harm in that. Try the base model I ordered one two days ago and it is expecting delivery today. If I like it I’ll keep it if not it’s a quick trip to fedex drop off.

Testing 4K, 6K, and 8K in Premiere Pro, Davinci Resolve, and Final Cut Pro:

So basically, lower your expectations, these are supposed to be lower end models after all.

edit: and as Max points out, Resolve officially requires 16GB of memory

There are some caveats to any review incorporating apps such as DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro, etc. DaVinci Resolve has not officially been optimized for the M1 yet (outside of the beta.) This means that they were either using the Intel version via Rosetta or the beta version (which could still be a work-in-progress). There is no firm ETA on the M1 version of Resolve being officially released, so it may be a while before we see it hit official channels. The other factor that could be affecting their results is the format they are exporting the file to. If everyone else is using a different format for export, then the results could indeed be that different because the format they are using may require more processing and memory to complete.

but in this video you link, they are blown away and the performances better than the video linked where they are complaining. and max is using 8 GB. and its MBP. the mini will be even better because no throttling and lower temp. I HOPE Lol

Those guys who made the video that you linked say in the comments that "we’ve had some very different results with [Resolve] today, so make sure you hit the notification bell for the latest on that".

Maybe it was a marketing ploy all along...

I saw that too...His conclusion was that Davinci Resolve doesn't work well with BRAW codecs on the M1, but ProRes, H.264 & H.265 are OK. However, I have seen other YouTube videos with people claiming BRAW works well....if you have a Black Magic camera and use BRAW I would wait until this question is answered. Bear in mind that Resolve is still in Beta, so the situation will hopefully improve.
