I am trying to customize the view options of a folder in Snow Leopard. I googled on how to set options for a single window only, and found that there should be an option in the view options pane like the one shown here:

ThisWindowOnlyLeopard.jpg

However, my version of this thing in Snow Leopard looks like this:

ThisWindowOnly.png

Now am I doing something wrong, or is this option gone in Snow Leopard?

No, I think they've just changed some things around since Tiger (that is Tiger, right? Or is that Panther...?). Anyway -- just hit the check box at the top to "Always open in icon/list/column view." The settings you have customized at the time will go with it.

If you wanted to apply those settings to all windows, click the "Use as Defaults" button at the bottom.

I see. I take it the sidebar is always global to all folders, right?

kork,

What you are missing is that any changes you make without clicking on "Use as Defaults" is like using the "This window only" setting. Clicking on "Use as Defaults" is like using the "All windows" setting.

I see. Its just another way of doing it, though i actually found the other way more intuitive.
