Thornes Supermarkets now take Apple Pay in Jefferson, Ohio.

Until this week they had an antiquated system for charge cards. Two or three checkout lanes shared one old fashion terminal and you signed a paper receipt.

On Thursday they installed new VeriPhone terminals (like the ones in the Trader Joe's story) at every checkout. I saw the terminals today when I bought my groceries.

I said to the cashier it was a charge and then proceeded to use my Apple Pay AMEX. It worked!

The good news is that smaller stores are getting ready for Chip and Sign by installing terminals that also include contactless payments.
