So I was pretty much forced to get the 512GB model on a preorder unless I want to wait 2 months..

I can see a few uses especially with USB-C port but what do you guys use the storage for typically? I'm not worry about the extra money. Just curious

Thanks!

I think most of them use the space for 4k

I use a 256gb iphone 11 Pro now and im hitting the 60% used mark. Typically most of the storage is photos and videos. I plan on trading my 11 Pro in for the 15 Pro through AT&T, so its another 3 years and I want to make sure I dont run out of space with 4k video and the larger photo sizes.

I've only got a 256GB but my case won't be unique - I still have a large music library, and keep much of it on my phone - about 70ish GB at the moment, though I need to add some more and do a little housekeeping.

High res videos and photos add up fast too.

I pull all of my photos and videos off of my phone, onto my MB, arrange them in folders, and sync back to my phone. I keep all of my photos and videos local in my photos app, categorized in folders, and never let my camera roll go above 300 pics/vids. I don't like relying on stability of my network to get something from the cloud. So that is my use case, albeit likely not a common one.

4K video, apps, etc. I don't even keep my music on my phone anymore—instead using Spotify—and I'm almost at 500GB. For one thing, on my old phones I had to offload photos, etc. Now I do that only as a backup since I've had 1TB phones since they were available.

Mine is a 256GB, but I’m at 200GB occupied so will have to go for a 512GB next upgrade; most of that is spent of photos and videos, which I like to keep a copy of in my phone.

Ok, but if you use Optimize photo library that 4k video still exists. You just need to buffer it no? I don't need every photo or video I've ever taken available at all times. Personally.
I delete my photos and videos after a while and leave them backed up in Google photos which has search feature that's waaaay superior to ios photos.

Mostly I just don’t delete anything, ever. I’ve been restoring from backup since iCloud started. I think my messages and photos go back to 2012.

And I keep all media fully downloaded onto my phone.

Few scenarios:
- downloaded content (music, video, etc) when traveling in low bandwidth areas
- RAW storage
- ProRes storage
- iCloud Drive local storage
- spatial video (I imagine this will be roughly twice the size of a typical 4k video, depending on compression and depth data)
- offline maps (huzzah iOS 17!)

So you don't use iCloud Photos? That's wild to me man..
Nope, tried when it first came out and it bugged me that my thumbnails and images were kinda blurry and took a second or two to load the full quality version. I believe it’s better now, but I just never switched it back on after that. I like being able to access all of my stuff without being reliant on an internet connection. I also have no desire to see all photos across all devices, so an iCloud backup of the phone works perfectly fine for me.

Ok, that makes sense. I share a ton of photos with iCloud and have Apple+ or whatever it's called.

I have 256 GB 11 Pro Max, just ordered a 1TB 15 PM because a) why not and b) to match my 1TB MBA M2 (which is also overkill for me)

I just want to have all my files with me all the time and not worry about space for the next 3-4 years.

DSD Format audio files for a true lossless audio experience using a separate Audio DAC(Digital to Analog Converter) and actual good headphones or IEMS.
A single song can be several GB depending on resolution.

I probably have another 200+ GB of music that I don't have loaded on the phone because they have to be loaded via cable when the iPhone is connected to Mac. USB 2 speeds TAKE FOREVER so I gave up... but I will be sure to load the rest of my music on my new 15 PM via USB C since it won't take days anymore.

I also planning on using the camera more and capturing in ProRAW/ProRES or now finally HEIF/HEVC at full resolution.

I ran out of space on my 1 TB iPhone Pro Max.

My use case is: Pictures, podcasts, video, movies downloaded to watch during travel.

I would have bought a 2 TB if they had offered it.
