I've had an M1 MBA since last November. 200 battery cycles and 93% battery health with 3 months warranty left, I'm considering upgrading to the M2.

There seem to be some good, noticeable upgrades - MagSafe, better speakers, colour options, 1080p cam, different form factor etc. The performance differences aren't too important to me as I don't use it for anything intensive.

Still, it's probably going to cost me around £600-£700 to upgrade to a base M2 from my base M1. Thinking of a Midnight one.

Those that made the jump, is it worth it or do you regret it? Should I just hang on to my M1?

I haven't gotten my M2 yet, but I ordered one to upgrade from the M1. The biggest reason I did it, though, is because I got the base model M1 and was finding that I was running out of RAM often with the work I do. If I wasn't increasing the RAM I probably wouldn't have made the jump.

I would say its only really worth it if you were wanted to upgrade anyways for more storage or ram. But if your current spec is suitable, then probably not. If you have the funds and want something more modern then go for it, only live once lol

Same boat. I am more acutely feeling it where I skimped on the SSD space. I got the most basic 8/256 configuration assuming I'd only be using it for writing and internet stuff. Turns out I'm relying on it more for graphic design and 256 GB fills up fast. The RAM I don't think I'm noticing as much most of the time.

I could probably accomplish what I need with a refurb M1 Air with a bigger SSD, but it also might be a handy justification for buying the M2 :)

you could also buy an external drive for $100 🙃 or upgrade to an M2 if you see fit 😉

Unless you need to upgrade the RAM/storage I personally don't think the upgrade from M1 to M2 is "worth" £600. But I guess it depends on how much that amount of money means to you!

It has been worth it to me. My M1 is the base model and I needed a bigger SSD. While I was at it, I got more RAM as well with my M2. I like the slightly bigger screen, MagSafe, and form factor. I haven't used the new cam, yet.

I'm running an external drive now, to accomodate this 50 GB Creative Cloud sync* folder. It's like a horrible appendage dangling from my USB port.

* Creative Cloud sucks ass in that it doesn't offer any kind of selective sync so you have to sync literally everything everyone has shared with you to your local drive. Sadly, it's what my client uses so I'm stuck with it unless I convince them to use Dropbox or something sane.

I wanted the 24 GB RAM and the new chassis. It was worth it to me but I could easily see people thinking it was wasteful spending. Certainly my M1 MacBook Air would have worked well for me for at least another year.

The base storage is also a reason I would upgrade, Adobe likes to make a lot of temp files for scratch disc.
