I initially connected my iPhone 12 Pro max and did the direct transfer via WiFi to my iPhone 13 Pro. That was much better than restoring from iCloud as all my app logins were retained it was seamless.

Then I launched Instagram and noticed how the top icons were mis-aligned so I thought it was due to the fact that I didn't set it up as new there were some incompatibility issues with the new screen size. I was wrong off-course as Instagram released an updated today which addressed this issue.

Oh well, it wasn't a bad idea since I didn't do a factory reset when upgrading from iOS 14 to 15 and now with this new phone, might as well start fresh.

Since when does iOS allow cable based direct transfer without a Mac or PC in the middle?
It’s been awhile! Use lightning to usb camera dongle and connect another lightning cable at the other end. During the migration option, select transfer from iPhone and you should see an icon with 2 phone connected with a cable. For reference, this video

Nice, I’ll take a look later, thanks much!

Never knew that. Thanks.

I was on a time crunch, leaving for a weekend getaway and didn’t want to spend time transferring. But I wanted to be able to have use of the new cameras. So I set up as new.

Also I never updated the old phones to iOS 15. I didn’t want to deal with any issues arising from that and transferring any hidden issues to this phone.

I was going to initially setup my new 13 Pro Max as a brand new phone from no backup however after experiencing issues with the Verizon eSim activation and realizing the huge hassle that is ahead of me, I finally just used the phone transfer option. It was seamless and almost everything worked with no issues.

I did the Device-to-Device wi-fi transfer. Quick and easy, transferred everything from my old phone, and prompted me to wipe my old phone to prepare it for trade-in at the end.

No way I'm going through the hassle of setting it up as new and reinstalling/reconfiguring everything unless I have no other choice.

I usually transfer from the old phone, but I decided to try setting up from scratch this time to eliminate the cruft and apps I never use
