I thought my Always On Display feature wasn't working when I set it this morning. I restarted my iPhone 14 Pro Max and double checked everything and then I realized that my lock screen font is black (I changed it awhile back). I decided to change the font to white and then I could see it fine with AOD turned on.
I don't understand why the AOD font doesn't default to white while AOD is showing and then changes back to whatever font color you selected yourself once the screen is turned on.
If your font is black and you have AOD turned on then you don't see anything (time, date, etc) besides notifications I believe.
